The City of Atlanta will receive ΦBK’s Arts & Sciences Cities of Distinction Award at an evening reception at the Woodruff Arts Center on April 6. The award recognizes the city for the quality, depth, range, and vibrancy of its community engagement with the arts and sciences. Camille Russell Love, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, will accept the award on behalf of the city.
“The City of Atlanta is honored to receive the Arts & Sciences Cities of Distinction Award,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “I am a firm believer that great cities have great art. Art is a critical component of vibrant communities and helps define a city’s identity, making it a great place to live, an inspiring place to work, and a wonderful place to visit.”
We invite Atlanta area members to enjoy complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the award reception on April 6 where we will give $5,000 prizes to four local organizations: ELEVATE, the Atlanta Science Festival, The Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection, and the Center for Collaborative and International Arts at Georgia State University.
The evening will continue with electrifying lightning talks open to the public, featuring former US Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey, mathematician Ken Ono, political scientist Eleanor Morris, biologist William Ratcliff, and artist Cosmo Whyte. Each presenter will have just five minutes to spark your imagination! Tracy Wilson and Holly Frey, hosts of Stuff You Missed in History Class, will emcee the event.
