When Fred Lawrence started as ΦBK’s Secretary/CEO last summer, he set a goal to visit as many chapters and associations as possible. So far, he has visited nearly 50.
In January, at a reception cohosted by the Southern California Association and University of Southern California ΦBK chapter, Lawrence shared plans for the Society’s future and explored the relationship between freedom of expression and civility. A highlight of the afternoon was the opportunity to talk with several of USC’s junior ΦBK inductees. Lawrence also enjoyed a dinner with Southern California Association leaders and time with chapter officers from California State University-Long Beach, Occidental College, University of California-Irvine, University of California-Los Angeles, and University of California-Riverside.
In February, Lawrence returned to California to speak at the Northern California Association’s 31st annual Asilomar Conference. The highly anticipated weekend brings leading experts together on the stunning northern California coast in the spirit of learning for all of life. Lawrence also met with representatives of Mills College, San Francisco State University, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, and University of the Pacific.
Ann McCulloch, Director of Chapter and Association Relations, also headed west, meeting with the University of California-Berkeley chapter before heading to Portland, Oregon, to meet with area ΦBK members enthusiastic about forming an alumni association. Organizers are eager to hear from Portland-area members, so contact McCulloch at email@example.com if you are interested. We hope to see you at a future event!
Lawrence plans more trips in the coming months. Check the Society’s events calendar to see if he will be in your area.
