The Phi Beta Kappa Society Seeks New Leader

The Phi Beta Kappa Society invites nominations and applications for the position of Secretary of Phi Beta Kappa, the national organization’s chief executive officer. The society seeks a bold and creative thinker to lead a talented staff of twenty people eager to enhance Phi Beta Kappa’s programs. The secretary will also ensure strong working relationships across the society, including its 286 chapters, its 50 alumni associations, and its affiliated entity, The Phi Beta Kappa Foundation, as well as with other higher education organizations. Our new secretary will advance Phi Beta Kappa’s national profile and play a central role in fundraising.

The candidate must be a member of Phi Beta Kappa, hold a terminal degree, and have excelled in her or his chosen field. The person we hire must demonstrate a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences as well as to good governance, financial oversight, and best management practices. The secretary must also be deeply engaged in the evolving and contentious national conversation about the value of a well-rounded education.

The new secretary must be a persuasive writer and speaker comfortable with traditional and emerging media. She or he must also be a national thought leader and serve as the primary spokesperson for the half-million members of Phi Beta Kappa in a range of public venues in Washington, DC, and across the United States.
